Our Mission
At KARA our Mission is promoting “health in life” for all middle and senior age individuals. Through the search for our ancestors, we learn about family origins – what we generally call “family history research”.
Our Vision
At KARA, we are family historians. We research ancestors and teach others how to do their family research too. It begins with you and becomes a journey into the past. Learning about our family from the past promotes out own well being today.
KARA (Kawartha Ancestral Research Association Inc.) was founded in late 1995. We are dedicated to the enhancement of people’s lives through the experience and discovery of our ancestral roots.
Who We Are
KARA is an organization of Volunteers. It is the spirit of giving that powers the work we do.
We focus on discovering our ancestors in this part of Ontario, from the days when it was called Upper Canada to recent times. As one of the earlier settled regions, Peterborough and the Kawartha region offers a wealth of history. It has been home to many, including literary and political leaders, United Empire Loyalists and their descendant families and it of course was the destination of the settlers who came in the 1825 Peter Robinson emigration.
Friendly KARA Volunteer Staff are always available to assist by explaining and helping locate resources; to discuss avenues of current or future research; or provide general background information about different research materials. Whether experienced genealogist or beginner, all are welcomed to the KARA Research Centre’s renowned atmosphere of warmth and helpful assistance.
Join the KARA Research Centre. A welcoming environment where members and visitors research family and local history, meet up with friends and spend delightful afternoons chatting about their work.
We would love to hear from you!
