Through the Years in Douro
$39.95
Written as a centennial project for 1967, this book traces the development of the Township of Douro, Peterborough County, Ontario.
It begins by reviewing the area before white settlers arrived.
The second section covers the arrival of the earliest settlers, the Stewart and Reid families who came in the early 1800s and who were closely followed by the Stricklands.
The third section of the book details development of the area from 1850 through 1900, looking at township administration, farming, logging and other industries. The progress of school, church and social life are also reviewed in this part of the book.
The last section, part four, reviews change and development in the township during the period 1900 – 1967.
