Heart of Emily Downeyville 1825-1960 is a history of Downeyville retold in poetry. The opening pages give the names and lot location of families who settled in each concession of the Township of Emily. A little detail is given about the parish church and hall and of the priests who served the community.

The book moves along to listings of those who served in the first and second world wars. These pages are followed by prose that recounts the different families and their homes. At Mr. Ed Houlihan’s home, family and guests cross into this pioneer home by stepping upon a large flat stone that was placed at the entrance way to welcome all and keep a little of the dirt outside more than in.
