In 1857, legislation was enacted to provide for the registration of all marriages performed by clergymen in the Province of Canada West (later Ontario). This led to a creation of a series of volumes known as the County Marriage Registers, which contain records of marriages performed by clergy from 1 January 1858 until 30 June 1869, at which time a new system of registration was established.
The register provides information about each marriage: bridegroom, bride, witnesses, date of the marriage, name and affiliation of the officiating clergyman.
